Butterflies and Moths
Butterflies and moths not only enrich our lives with their beauty
but they are also good indicators of the health of the environment.
Being relatively low on the food chain, they are among the first to
be affected when things go wrong. Butterfly Conservation and its
branches, including the South Wales Branch, maintain lists of
threatened or endangered species and work towards their
conservation.
The links below lead to two pages with lists of butterflies and
moths which are in this precarious position together with the Local
Authorities that have drawn up Local Biodiversity Action Plans for
them. There are also links to the main Butterfly Conservation web
site for more information about the species.
